VAT in UAE
The UAE introduced VAT in January 2018 at 5%, one of the lowest rates in the world. The Federal Tax Authority administers it, and it applies to most goods and services across all seven emirates.
- The standard rate is 5%.
- Some supplies are zero-rated (such as exports and certain education and healthcare services) or exempt (such as residential rent and some financial services).
- Businesses above the registration threshold must register with the FTA and charge VAT on taxable supplies.
- Designated free zones can have special VAT treatment, so check the rules for your zone.

How to calculate VAT in UAE
Add VAT
Gross = Net × 1.05
AED 1,000.00 net + AED 50.00 VAT = AED 1,050.00
Remove VAT
Net = Gross ÷ 1.05
AED 1,050.00 gross − AED 50.00 VAT = AED 1,000.00
UAE VAT calculator FAQs
What is the VAT rate in UAE?
The standard VAT rate in UAE is 5%. Some goods and services can be zero-rated, exempt or taxed at different rates, so always check the rules that apply to your supply with Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
How do I calculate VAT in UAE?
Multiply the price excluding VAT by 0.05 to get the VAT amount, then add it to the price. For example, AED 1,000.00 + 5% = AED 1,050.00.
How do I remove VAT from a price in UAE?
Divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1.05. For example, AED 1,050.00 ÷ 1.05 = AED 1,000.00, which means the VAT portion is AED 50.00. Subtracting 5% from the gross price gives the wrong answer.
Who has to register for VAT in UAE?
Businesses whose taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in annual taxable supplies (mandatory registration). Registration thresholds and voluntary registration rules change, so confirm the current figures with Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
Is this calculator official?
No. It is a free convenience tool for quick estimates and is not tax or legal advice. For filing and compliance, rely on Federal Tax Authority (FTA) or a qualified tax adviser.
