GST in Australia
Australia charges a flat 10% Goods and Services Tax on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in the country. The Australian Taxation Office administers it.
- GST is 10% of the price of the taxable supply, so a GST-inclusive price is divided by 11 to find the GST portion.
- GST-free items include most basic food, some health and education services, and exports.
- Businesses above the turnover threshold must register for GST and report it on their Business Activity Statement.

How to calculate GST in Australia
Add GST
Gross = Net × 1.10
A$1,000.00 net + A$100.00 GST = A$1,100.00
Remove GST
Net = Gross ÷ 1.10
A$1,100.00 gross − A$100.00 GST = A$1,000.00
Australia GST calculator FAQs
What is the GST rate in Australia?
The standard GST rate in Australia is 10%. Some goods and services can be zero-rated, exempt or taxed at different rates, so always check the rules that apply to your supply with Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
How do I calculate GST in Australia?
Multiply the price excluding GST by 0.1 to get the GST amount, then add it to the price. For example, A$1,000.00 + 10% = A$1,100.00.
How do I remove GST from a price in Australia?
Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1.10. For example, A$1,100.00 ÷ 1.10 = A$1,000.00, which means the GST portion is A$100.00. Subtracting 10% from the gross price gives the wrong answer.
Who has to register for GST in Australia?
Businesses whose taxable supplies exceed AUD 75,000 in annual GST turnover (AUD 150,000 for non-profits). Registration thresholds and voluntary registration rules change, so confirm the current figures with Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
Is this calculator official?
No. It is a free convenience tool for quick estimates and is not tax or legal advice. For filing and compliance, rely on Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or a qualified tax adviser.
